About the FOWL newsletter

One of my new year’s resolutions in 2019 was to communicate more of the trends I’ve been observing from innovation in other markets. to be a resource for you to keep a pulse on these areas in a low-commitment, birds-eye view. With the flood of information in each of our feeds and channels, a core tenet of the next wave of technology will be around high quality curation. This is one attempt of mine to leverage the past 12 years of following the intersection of Silicon Valley and Research Libraries. Over that time, I’ve identified the most efficient opportunity to help organizations future-proof themselves is to become a trusted resource for leaders.

What to expect

Rather than continue on in the paralysis of analysis on the best way to get this information to you, I decided just to start sending you the top link I’ve come across each week. It may be an article. It may be a podcast. It may be a video. Or even a presentation. The constant will be a piece of media that I’m confident will be a deviation from your day-to-day, but will help frame your long-term thinking about shaping each of your organizations with fresh perspective and data. You will receive this before your work day begins, once a week, as something to offer fresh perspective during your commute or morning routine in preparation for the day’s decisions.

What’s the point

This should never feel like spam or solicitation. My goal is to help keep you abreast of the world outside of libraries that will shape your work in the periphery in the areas of personnel, workforce development, organizational development, recruitment, retention, employee engagement, succession planning, and the like. I’ve learned over the past 4 years that library leaders are expected to change the world around them, but are oftentimes expected to have everything figured out before they begin. I’m working to help you in this area.

With gratitude,
